The new Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque is my latest must have product for a clear and glowing complexion.
I have always been a fan of mud/clay masks but this blows all previous ones out of the water, it's magical. I think you can safely assume with all this gushing that I actually quite like this product!
I have only ever used one product from Dermologica previously and that was the Daily Microfoliant.
So firstly, let's have a look at what is actually in this products that makes it so special.
Ingredients are as follows:-
* Activated Binchotan (Japanese Ubame Oak) Charcoal – draws out excess sebum, toxins and other impurities. Renowned for its adsorption abilities (the adhesion of one substance onto the surface of another). Activated charcoal, which has a negatively charged surface, attracts and binds itself to positively-charged toxins. The charcoal is activated by heating Japanese Ubame Oak branches to extreme temperatures of 1,000°C, then rapidly cooling them down. Internal surfaces are eroded, increasing the adsorption capacity of the charcoal by creating an internal network if micropores. The resulting material can adsorb more than 1,000 times its weight in positively-charged compounds.
* Sulphur – promotes cellular turnover for dramatically brighter skin. Removes dulling, dead skin cells and combats breakout-causing bacteria. Ideal for calming rosacea, eczema and sebaceous dermatitis. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.
* Volcanic Ash, Hot Spring, Marine Silt (mud), Bamboo Stem Extract – physical exfoliants to leave skin smooth and revitalised.
* Phytic, Lactic and Mandelic Acid – chemical exfoliants which accelerate cellular turnover, increasing collagen production and brightening skin.
* Niacinamide – combats redness, inflammation and congested pores.
* Chilean Wild Mint – improves skin texture and reduces pore visibility
The masque is a very dark cream that actually feels quite gritty on application. This is a mask that dries the smile off your face, I could quite literally feel all the impurities being sucked out of my pores. When you are ready to remove just wet your hands and pat around the mask then gently massage to finish the exfoliation part of the treatment. I then used a warm flannel to remove the remains of the masque.
I followed up with my usual serum and moisturiser and my skin looked amazing, smooth, clean and glowing,
The smoothness and the glow lasts for several days, like it does after you have had a really good facial, and make up just glides on afterwards
The only minor niggle I had with the Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque is that you really can smell the sulphur once the masque starts to dry and this in turn meant that my 2 cats would not leave me alone and were trying to lick the mask off!
Overall I absolutely love this product and will be slotting this into my regular skincare routine once or twice a week.
The Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque is available from all Dermalogica salons and retailers RRP £38

Have you tried GlamGlow before? I'd love to know how it measures up!
ReplyDeleteHi, yes I have used GlamGlow, I reviewed it here http://www.lovelustandfairydust.com/2013/04/glamglow-exfoliating-mud-mask-review.html I have to say I prefer the Dermalogica :)
DeleteI love dermalogica ans need to get my hands on this!
ReplyDeleteso glad that I have found your blog, especially as i am hurtling towards fifty myself and my skin has definatly changed over the last year or so.
il ove daily microfoliant too, have you ever treid skin prep scrub? thats good too :)
Hi Emma, welcome and thank you for your lovely comment. I have not tried the skin prep scrub but I love a good exfoliator so I will keep an eye out for that :)
DeleteI really loved this mask. I have used clay, mud one before I and I prefer all of these types of masks than the gel like one, if you know what I mean. Nital (www.surangi-style.com)
ReplyDeleteHi Nital, thanks for stopping by, yes I agree, I prefer this mask to the gel like ones :)
DeleteGood to know that the cats get attracted to it once it dries! I'm not big on masks just because I haven't had the best of luck with them. There's a lot of over drying that has happened to me.

Maybe you should try one of the cream hydrating masks to help combat the dryness :)
DeleteI am using this at the minute as part of my multimasking regime and I really really like it x
ReplyDeleteOoh I love a multi masking routine, haven't done one of those in a while :)
DeleteI've had a sample of this mask before and did love it! I like to use sheet masks as they're quicker and easier, but I also love the Origins charcoal mask too x
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried any of the new sheet masks, I must remember to pick a couple up and give them a try, they seem very popular at the moment :)
DeleteOoh I've always liked clay/mud masks too, but never tried this - it sounds great! Not so sure I'd want my cat licking my face, though! I like the oxygen facial mask from Bliss, & tend to alternate between using that and using clay masks. (Lucy/R is for Hoppit)
ReplyDeleteI have heard good things about the Oxygen facial mask from Bliss but haven't tried it myself, I also love the clay masks :)
DeleteI really want to try the oxygen facial mask because it will be great for my skin.
ReplyDeleteI've not tried the oxygen mask either :)
DeleteI really, really love the sound of this face mask! I've been trying a few lately but nothing as magical as this one sounds! I love that glow and smoothness last for days! My cats would probably try liking it off too. Lovely post. xx
ReplyDeleteI think the cats were attracted to the sulpher in the mask :)
DeleteThat's quite expensive, I don't know if I'm ready to part with that kind of cash haha. I do love dermalogica though!
ReplyDeleteCorinne x
Yes I agree, it is quite expensive, but it's a decent size tube, you wouldn't need to use it too often and it works.
DeleteI love a charcoal mask! Always leaves my skin feeling amazing! The price tag is quite steep but I am accustomed to spending a lot on skin care ha
ReplyDeleteYes me too, you can't put a price on good skin :)
DeleteI have been obsessed with masks lately and have tried a few of them. I have tried Dermalogica products before but I haven't tried their masks yet. This mask sounds really awesome and I am sure the price is worth it.
ReplyDeleteLeslie xoxo
