Battle Of The Cleansing Balms The Body Shop Versus Clinique

Let the battle commence

the body shop camomile sumptuous cleansing butter and clinique take the day off cleansing balm
I have completely used up all of the product from both of these so I think it's fair to say that I have given them both a fair trial.

I will be comparing texture, fragrance, price and results.

I love the packaging of this product, perfect for travel.

The texture is a very soft waxy balm, you don't need too much to effectively cleanse your face.  It has a very light lemony fragrance and I found that it did not irritate my skin or my eye area.  I always use balms on dry skin, massage and then add a little water just before wiping off with a warm flannel.  It removed most of my make up on the first cleanse but I had to go over the eye area again to remove all traces of my mascara and eyeliner.

RRP £13 for 90ml which works out at 14 pence per ml.

clinique take the day off cleansing balm

Nice sturdy packaging, okay for travel.

The texture is a much firmer balm, you need a very small amount to thoroughly cleanse your face.  This balm has no fragrance at all, that was a bit strange initially as most cleansing balms have a fragrance from essential oils, once I'd used this a couple of times I forgot about the lack of fragrance.  It did not irritate skin or eyes. Again I used this on dry skin, massaged, added water and then removed with flannel. It removed all traces of make up in the first cleanse.

RRP £22 for 125ml which works out at 17 pence per ml

In conclusion I would have to say that my battle winner is Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm.  Although it is £9 more expensive than The Body Shop Cleansing Butter I found it lasted more than twice as long as I needed to use such a small amount, it just felt like it was melting my make up off on contact.

The only thing I dislike about cleansing balms is getting it out of the pot, I hate dipping my finger into products so I always use a fresh wax spatula to remove product.

What's your favourite cleansing balm?

  2. Thanks for your feedback...I just heard that you shouldn't use moisturizer because it clogs your pores and that you should use a moisturizing cleanser...don't know if that is true or not, but timely review nonetheless

  11. Lovely comparison. I would probably buy The Body Shop cleanser just because I like them to smell nice and I love a camomille scent as well X
