Staying fabulous at 50+

Jainnisa.......The Essence Of Thailand

This luxury brand is set to launch in the UK very soon.  I was sent two products to try, the Gently Exfoliating Body Polish and the Invigorating Deep Body Scrub and I was quite excited at the prospect of having my bathroom transformed into a Thai Spa.

Jainnisa uses Thailand's rich heritage of natural plant and marine ingredients, harnessing their nutrients and blending their extracts and oils to create luxurious bath and body ranges.

There are two collections in the range, Calming and Relaxing and Stimulating and Refreshing.

The Calming and Relaxing collection contains Frangipani, Ylang Ylang, Tuberose, Blue Lotus and Jasmine.

The Stimulating and Refreshing collection contains Exotic Herbs, Lime, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Frangipani, Blue Lotus and Wild Orchid.

review of jainnisa gently exfoliating body polish

The first product I tried was from the Calming and Relaxing Collection.  This really is a gentle body polish.  It has the most diving aroma and feels gentle and soothing on the skin.  This product is absolutely perfect if you like to exfoliate every day as it is very gently on the skin.  My only issue with this product is that the square bottle is quite large, the product inside is quite thick and it is really difficult to hold and squeeze the bottle in the shower.

review of jannisa invigorating deep body scrub

The Invigorating Deep Body Scrub from the Stimulating and Refreshing Collection was my favourite product of the two.  When you open the jar it doesn't look like a normal body scrub, it looks more like a very thick cream.  Once you start to spread it on the skin you can feel it is giving your skin a thorough scrub without being too abrasive.  The fragrance of this product is beautiful and still apparent a couple of hours later.

Prices start from £15

The Jainnisa website is due to go live very soon www.jainnisa.com

Cellu Smooth From The Beauty Works

Cellulite, the curse of women everywhere, fat, thin, young or old, cellulite does not discriminate and we've all tried various treatments to get rid of it.  I have to say that none of the treatments that I have tried have made a scrap of difference to the little bit of cellulite that I have at the top of my legs.  Admittedly I have never tried any electrical appliances to rid myself of my orange peel, only lotions, potions and brushes.  The lotions, potions and brushes have usually made a difference in the texture of my skin but they haven't dealt with the actual cellulite.

So, as you can imagine when I was sent the Cellu Smooth to try I was a bit sceptical and also a tad nervous.

review of cellu smooth from the beauty works

On opening the box I was surprised to see only 2 buttons, one for power and one for intensity, the instruction leaflet is also super easy to understand.  It comes with 250ml of conductive gel.

What they say......

  • Body shaping
  • Smooth firm appearance
  • Increases blood and lymph circulation
  • When used in conjunction with diet and exercise, Cellu-Smooth will improve body shape by mobilzing the Cellulite
  • Mobilizs fatty deposits allowing them to exit the body naturally
  • On a gentle setting it will relax tired and aching muscles
  • Treatments of 15 minutes daily for just a few weeks, can work wonders on your body
  • Helps give your skin a healthier and smooth appearance
  • No vigorous massaging
  • No painful pummelling
  • No harsh body scrubs

What I say......

When I switched it on I thought it was broken, there was no noise, no movement, nothing, then I read the instructions again.  I put a thin layer of gel on my area of concern, switched the unit on and opted for high intensity and just moved the unit around on my thigh for the recommended 15 minutes.  After a few minutes there was a lovely, comforting warmth on the area that I was treating.  Now 15 minutes each leg every night for 2 weeks is a huge commitment.  I would use this every night in my lounge whilst watching TV, with the curtains closed of course.  After 2 weeks I have to say I did notice a marked improvement, not only in the texture of my skin but also in it's appearance, although I still have cellulite it is a lot less noticeable and the skin feels much tighter and smoother in that area.  I am now using the unit a couple of times a week as a maintenance programme.

I have also used the unit on my shoulders as I carry all of my tension in my shoulders.  It is perfect for relaxing muscles in that area after a long hard day at work.

You maybe surprised to learn that this magic little machine retails at only £49.99 and is available at The Beauty Works

Skin Science Bio Active Marine Foaming Enzyme Cleanser

A little while ago I entered Cupcake and Marigold's blog competition over at hangupsandhandbags.com if you don't follow these lovely ladies then you should pop over to their blog immediately and see what you are missing.  I was absolutely delighted when I won as the prize on offer was a product from the Skin Science range.  I have previously reviewed Skin Science Bio Active Renewal Complex and Skin Science Bio Active Quicklift Mask and absolutely loved the products, so I was really looking forward to trying the Bio Active Enzyme Cleanser.

review of skin science bio active marine foaming enzyme cleanser

What they say...... Skin Science Bio Active Marine Foaming Enzyme Cleanser incorporates breakthrough ingredient, Zonase X™, which contains an enzyme that mimics the skin's own natural exfoliation process and gently detaches dead skin cells without harming the living skin cells beneath. Zonase X™ is the only enzyme in the world that possesses the ability to differentiate between healthy active skin cells and unhealthy deteriorating ones and so stops at the dead skin layer. Working at a skin friendly pH, Zonase X™ draws moisture into the skin, leaving it rejuvenated, replenished and smoother. The cleanser also incorporates Skin Science’s core ingredient and nature’s most powerful antioxidant, Spermine, which delays skin ageing by 20%.

What I say...... I'm not a huge fan of face washes to take off my make up so I remove all of my make up with my usual cleanser and then I use the Skin Science Enzyme Cleanser.  One pump of the product is more than enough for your face and neck, I have in fact now started using just half a pump.  There is no real fragrance to the product, which I actually prefer in a face wash.  The product itself is a very thick clear gel, which then foams once water is added.  The product feels nice and light on the face and the foam has a very luxurious feel to it.  After rinsing with warm water my skin feels really clean, looks really clean and glowing and there is no drying or tightness afterwards.  After a week of using this product twice a day I started to notice a real big difference in the texture of my skin, I find that I no longer have to use a separate exfoliator and the brown sun spot I had on the top of my cheek has faded significantly.  I have now started to use the product to wash the backs of my hands to see if it will have the same effect on the brown spots on my hands.

Now the only downside of this product is the price, it's £46 for 200ml is it worth it?  If you are under 30 years old and have no concerns about ageing then probably not, on the other hand if you are a woman of a *certain age* then it is absolutely worth it.  In my opinion a good skincare regime always starts with a good cleanser.  I could go to any High Street Chemist and pick up 200ml of cleanser for less than £5 but as a woman of a *certain age* this would be false economy for me.  I need a cleanser that is going to help tackle more than just removing my make up and this cleanser ticks all of the boxes for me.  I estimate that a 200ml bottle is going to last me 5-6 months so overall I think it is fabulous value for money.

A massive thank you to Cupcake and Marigold and don't forget to pop over to their lovely blog at  hangupsandhandbags.com

B Organic Skincare Hydrating Face Cream & Eye Cream

This is the second time that I have reviewed products from the B Organic Skincare Range.  The first time round I tried the luxury bath & body products.  You can see my review of those products HERE

I know how hard Aycin has been working this year to add more products to her completely natural range and I was very excited when she sent me the eye cream and the moisturiser to try.

review of B organic hydrating face cream

I absolutely love the packaging.  Not only is it funky and stylish but check out the hidden dispenser.  One twist of the lid and up pops the pump.  Absolutely ingenious.  No spillages, no mess and no cross contamination.  Absolutely perfect if you're travelling.

review of B organic hydrating eye cream

Enough about the packaging, now for the products.

The organic face cream has a lovely texture, it smells absolutely delicious and it just feels so comforting on the skin.  It is absolutely full of goodness like Rosehip and Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter, Rose and Lavender Oil.  When I have been working all day I like to come home and remove all of my make up and put a thick layer of this on and use as a nourishing mask, if my skin is really dry then after about 10 minutes I usually find that my skin has absorbed most of the cream.

The organic eye cream is perfect if like me, you suffer from dryness around the eyes.  This contains Macademia, Rosehip and Apricot Kernel Oils with a touch of cucumber oil providing rich vitamin C.  I take this cream to work with me and pat it around my eyes over my make up if I feel that the skin around my eyes is starting to dry out.

All of Aycin's products were developed especially for sensitive, dry, eczema and dermatitis skin types.  The products are 100% natural and contain no nasties whatsoever.

The Face Cream retails at £20 for 30ml

The Eye Cream retails at £17 for 15ml

Diva Professional Stay Hot Rollers

Last week I posted a review of Diva Profession Big Hot Wand  This week I'll be showing you the Diva Professional Stay Hot Rollers, once again as tested by my daughter, Amy.

So first of all let me show you the actual rollers.

review of diva professional stay hot rollers

As you can see you receive 8 large Rollers, 6 medium rollers and 6 small rollers.  20 professional colour coded pins, you also get 6 spare pins and 10 butterfly clips.

The on off switch lights up when on and there is a heat ready indicator.  If you look closely at the middle picture you will see that the large roller in the top right hand corner has a green dot on top of it, this roller must always be in that position before switching on.  Switch the unit on and close the lid, the rollers take around 10 minutes to heat up, the green dot on the large pink roller will turn a grey/white colour when the rollers are heated and ready to use.

When Amy first tried these she could not get any curl out of them at all, after reading the instructions properly she realised where she was going wrong, they recommend using on clean, almost dry hair.  So she blow dried her hair almost dry and then put the rollers in.  The result is as below, she had loads more volume and a nice natural wave.

Amy is really pleased with these rollers, they are a staple part of her going out routine and if the curls she achieves aren't 'curly' enough she'll just boost them with the Diva Professional Big Hot Wand.

The Stay Hot Rollers are available at www.sallyexpress.com until 26th October 2011 they are on special offer for £34.99 RRP is £37.99

Abahna White Grapefruit & May Chang Eau De Parfum

I was recently asked if I would like to try a product from Abahna, of course I said yes, after looking at their website I waited expectantly for a luxurious bath product to arrive.  If you're wondering why I was expecting a bath product it's because when you go to the Abahna Website it says Abahna, the ceremony of bathing.

When this little beauty arrived I was surprised but delighted.

review of abhana white grapefruit and may chang eau de parfum

Look at that gorgeous packaging.  This would make a wonderful Christmas gift.

Now let me tell you a little about the company.  They do not use SLS, SLES, Parabens, Petrochemicals or artificial colours.  They use the finest essential oils and are against animal testing.

The fragrance that I was sent is White Grapefruit and May Change, it is absolutely lovely.  When first applied the grapefruit is very apparent, it actually made my mouth water, after about 20 minutes the fragrance dried down to a lovely, creamy, lemony aroma.  The fragrance is very uplifting and refreshing, absolutely perfect if you start to flag a bit at the end of the day.  The aroma is long lasting and I can still smell it on the scarf that I was wearing the first time I used this.

I received a 10ml atomiser, which retails at  £15.00 and you can also purchase a 50ml bottle for £30.00

You can also purchase the bath foam, body lotion and scented candle to compliment each perfume.

Fragrances to choose from also include Mandarin & Sicillian Bergamot, Lilac Rose & Geranium and  Frangipani & Orange Blossom (that one is on my wish list).

Postage and packaging is free and the products arrive beautifully gift wrapped.

Pop over to the Abahna Website and have a look at their wonderful range of products.

I tend to do most of my shopping on-line, holidays, food shopping, beauty products, gifts, books, you name it I buy it.  The only thing I don't buy on-line is clothes and shoes for myself.

A couple of years ago I signed up to Quidco after a work colleague told me how to earn cashback whilst shopping on-line.  I opened an account and I haven't looked back since.  I average about £50-£100 a month in cashback, more if I have purchased holidays or insurance.  Now I always use my cashback to treat myself to something nice, or I save it to spend on products in duty free when I go away.

Diva Professional Styling Big Hot Wand

Quite a few weeks ago I was sent two items from Diva Professional Styling to try.  The Big Hot Wand and the Stay Hot Rollers.  Now before I got round to trying either of these products I had a major hair cut and as a result I have enrolled my daughter, Amy, to road test these products.

So first up is the Diva Pro Styling Big Hot Wand.

First impressions are it's pink, a very stylish, professional looking pink.  It's not too heavy so no aching arms, easy to use controls, it comes with a little heat protection stand and a finger protector.

It has a 19 - 32mm curling wand, it is ready to use in 30 seconds, LED indicator light flashes until the selected temperature has been reached, 25 heat settings, a cool tip and a 3 m salon length swivel cord.

review of diva professional styling big hot wand

To switch on you just press and hold the black button for about 10 seconds, select desired temperature and wait until the light stops flashing.  Use on dry hair.  Wind hair around the the heated barrel, allow 10 seconds for the curl to form then allow hair to cool before styling.  Amy has really straight hair and she was able to achieve these results on her first use of the styling wand.  Amy found the finger protectors difficult to get on with so she risked removing her fingerprints and used the wand without the protector.  The cool tip on the wand helped to minimise the risk of burnt fingers and I'm happy to report her fingerprints are still intact.

results of diva professional styling big hot wand

Since these pictures were taken Amy has used the styling wand many times and the results have just got better and better.  Amy recommends that you use a heat protection product on your hair as this wand really does get hot.

Maintenance of the wand is simple, just wipe clean any build up of styling product with a damp cloth once the wand is cool.

Diva Pro Styling Big Hot Wand is available at www.sallyexpress.com for £39.98

You can visit Diva Pro Styling on their Facebook Page  and Twitter Page where you will find information about all of their products, they also host fabulous giveaways.

Aromatherapy Associates Overnight Repair Mask

Every now and then a product comes along and you wonder how you ever lived without it.  This is one of those products.

Where was this products when I was young and burning the candle at both ends on minimum sleep?  Where was this products when I was bringing up 4 children on minimum sleep?  Where was this product when I was flying around the world on minimum sleep?  Where was this product now I am working 60 hours a week on minimum sleep?  Whoops, got a bit carried away there.

Before I even tell you anything about this product I just want you to know that it is amazing.

review of aromatherapy associates overnight repair mask

What they say:-

Let the natural botanics in this award winning mask smooth and firm the skin. Millet Seed tightens and firms, while Strawberry Seed hydrates and plumps and oils of Rose & Geranium stimulate circulation and renew the skin.

What I say:-

I used this when I came back from Florida, my skin was a little dehydrated from a combination of flying, heat, humidity and air conditioning.  As instructed I exfoliated my skin first and then applied a layer of the mask on my skin, about an hour later I went to bed with the mask still on.  The smell of the Rose & Geranium is pure bliss.  The following morning there was no trace of the mask so I just swept over my face with an alcohol free toner.  My skin looked and felt like I'd just had a facial.  I have been using the mask once or twice a week for the past 6 weeks and I'm amazed each time I use it at how fabulous my skin looks the next morning.  This truly is 8 hours sleep and a facial in a tube.  I have also used this mask as an overnight treatment on the backs of my hands, absolutely brilliant.

I will be recommending this product to my cabin crew friends as it is perfect as a post flight treatment.

This overnight repair mask is available at Aromatherapy Associates  It retails at £46 for 50ml

ANGEL EDT By Thierry Mugler

I am really excited as this is my first ever fragrance post on the blog.  What better way to start than with a new twist on an already iconic fragrance.

I have to be honest and say that I never tried the original Angel fragrance, I think that because of the adverts and the packaging I just assumed that it was aimed at very young women.  When I was offered the opportunity to try the new fragrance I visited my nearest department store to test the original fragrance so that I could make a comparison.  I have to say that I found the original EDP very sweet and quite powerful, it reminded me of candy floss and toffee apples.  After a couple of hours it had dried down to a lovely more wearable scent.  I sprayed this perfume on my wrist at 10am and I could still smell it at 10pm.

Now onto the new Angel EDT.

Angel by Thierry Muglar

Just look at that bottle, isn't it a thing of beauty, it's absolutely gorgeous.  The bottle is quite heavy and the lid is magnestised.  The bottle is also refillable.

Now onto the contents.  It is claimed that Angel EDP is softer, smoother and more subtle than the original.

The fragrance is structured in three waves, Heavenly, Delicious and Voluptuous.

Heavenly - Bergamot and Pink Peppercorn.

Delicious - Praline and Pink Fruits

Voluptuous - Cedar and White Musk

When I first sprayed this I could definitely smell the citrus from the bergamot, this quickly dried down to a gorgeous woody aroma and then the white musk kicked in.  Once settled this is a very sophisticated fragrance, much more grown up than Angel EDP.  I have been wearing this to work for a couple of days and I have had several people ask me what perfume I am wearing, even a few of the men have asked.  The more I wear this fragrance the more I like it.  I think this will definitely be on my Christmas wish list

Go to Mugler's Official Channel and see the making of the advert for ANGEL EDT.  Then pop over to see the beautiful Eva Mendez in the television advert.

ANGEL EDT retails at £46 for a 40ml refillable spray and £65 for an 80ml refillable spray.
